As was reported mid-September, there will be a significant change that will affect when pmCAL and pmCMI Flight Attendants receive their flight advance for the December 2018 flying.
In past years, pmCAL and pmCMI Flight Attendants received a pay check on December 31st of each year. This will not be the case in December 2018. Your final paycheck of the year will be your mid-December pay check which will be funded on December 14, 2018.
Effective in 2019, pmCO and pmCMI Flight Attendants will transition away from an end-of-year (December 31, 2018) pay check and will instead receive your flight advance for your December 2018 flying on your January 2, 2019 pay check consistent with Section 3.BB. of the JCBA. Because January 1st is a holiday, “Direct deposit funds for January 1st will be available the first business day after the holiday.” For 2019, you will receive your flight advance for your December flying on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
As a result of this change, there will be one less pay check in 2018 for a total of 23 pay checks. This change will not reduce your pay but it will affect the tax year in which the earnings will be reported. In addition, the timing as to when these funds will be direct deposited and available in your account will also be affected.
In order to help minimize the impact of the year-end check date change, but to also ensure these deductions are made during the calendar year for tax purposes, a determination was made that if the total of these deductions is more than $200, the total amount of these deductions will be withheld over a period of four pay checks between November 1, 2018 and December 14, 2018.
If, on the other hand, the total of these deductions is less than $200, the total amount of these deductions will be deducted from your mid-December pay check.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming change that will result in a “double-deduction”, please open a case Help Hub via Flying Together or you may call the Payroll Care Center at 877-825-3729 and follow the prompts for “pay questions” then “deductions” and then “other.”
