Resolution of Support for the People of Ukraine and Stand for Peace

FEB 28 - As a symbol of our support for the people of Ukraine and all who stand with them, our AFA Executive Board "Unanimously Adopted" a Resolution of support for the People of Ukraine.

Our AFA Executive Board met on February 28, 2022.  During this session, the Executive Board reviewed the impact the situation resulting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.  Recognizing that free movement and equality, which are central principles to the mission of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, we understand this directly impacts our job security.

As a symbol of our support for the people of Ukraine and all who stand with them, our Executive Board unanimously adopted the following resolution of support for the People of Ukraine:

STATEMENT OF QUESTION
Should the Executive Board show solidarity with the people of Ukraine?

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS a peaceful world is central to freedom, free movement, and equality – all central principles to the mission of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and directly the job security of our Members,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the AFA-CWA Executive Board strongly condemns the premeditated act of aggression by the Russian government against the people of Ukraine; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, war is inherently violent, deadly, and destructive, and we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those impacted by this conflict; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, we also stand in solidarity with the people of Russia who are courageously protesting the actions of their government; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, we appreciate the Biden Administration and other allies’ persistent diplomatic efforts to avoid an unnecessary war and encourage him to lead a coordinated, multilateral response to Putin's actions, including a humanitarian effort to support refugees fleeing any fighting; and,

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that as a symbol of our support for the people of Ukraine and all who stand with them, we encourage AFA-CWA members to wear blue and yellow ribbons under our AFA pin and we will continue to stay closely informed on developments in Ukraine and around the world to ensure AFA members are aware of any impact to our jobs and/or threats to our world-wide security.
