On April 21, 2020, the company published the COVID-19 temperature screening locations & process Safety Alertand since then, Flight Attendants have been asking how the Sick Leave Protection Letter of Agreement interacts when a Flight Attendant does not pass the temperature screening due to having a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
The temperature screening process explains that when a Flight Attendant does not pass the screening:
- Local flight attendants will be sent home and removed from their trip with their choice of management drop no pay (MDNP) or sick leave
- Commuting flight attendants will be provided with company-paid lodging for one night and speak with United medical to discuss next steps, which include either going in the following day to take their temperature or speak with their personal physician.
The Sick Leave Protection Letter of Agreement (LOA) interacts with this scenario if the Flight Attendant is subsequently required to quarantine by a medical official or authorized government official. In other words, If a Flight Attendant has a fever and does not pass the temperature screening, she/he may contact their doctor and if the doctor requires the Flight Attendant to quarantine, the Flight Attendant is then due to be pay protected per the LOA and any applicable sick bank would be restored.
NOTE: As a reminder, per the Sick Leave LOA, any points associated with sick leave will be removed by the FAST Team within seven (7) business days.
