Early in the new year the United Kingdom announced the launch of their Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Program. This applies to all passport holders from visa-exempt countries (including the U.S.). At this time working/deadheading crew members are exempt from needing an ETA to enter the UK and should continue to follow standard protocols for UK trips.
Crew members entering the UK for personal travel, however, will be required to follow the new travel requirements and will be required to have a current ETA. This includes transit through the UK, including if you are not going through UK border control.
Make sure you are only accessing the correct UK government website for purchasing your visa found HERE for your ETA visa. There can be scam websites and incorrect links to overcharge you for the proper visa to travel.
Once approved the ETA will be electronically attached to your passport. ETA’s are valid for multiple entries and up to two years (or until the passport expires).
