Earlier this month, United management advised the Unions they had elected to make a discretionary contribution of $375 million dollars to the CARP in September 2021.
While the CARP was not subject to a required minimum contribution for the plan year, it was viewed as prudent for the company to make the contribution in an ongoing effort to improve the funding status of the plan and maintain management’s priority commitment to the financial health of the CARP.
This contribution was reflected in United’s third-quarter financial statements and will also be reflected in the Annual Funding Notices that will be distributed to plan participants after the close of the plan year.
