Updated vented mask guidance for employees and customers
United today has updated our corporate mask policies to address the issues surrounding the use of vented masks. Beginning tomorrow, August 7, the mask policy will be updated to require customers and employees to wear face coverings without any sort of opening or vent in the areas that cover the nose and mouth.
Face coverings act as a barrier to keep respiratory droplets from entering the air, and masks with openings or vents do not provide protection from spreading the virus. Because there are certain types of masks with venting that permits unfiltered respiratory particles to escape, the company is offering clearer guidance on the use of certain masks that may not accomplish the “barrier” intended by the mask policy.
