Layover Safety Awareness Essential in Preventing Sexual Violence

MEC EAP / Professional Standards Committee

As we continue to welcome hundreds of new hire Flight Attendants this year into our Flight Attendant Community, we have a shared responsibility to look out for each other and to remind each out about layover safety not only while on layover but also while on duty.

You are strongly encouraged to review the Layover Safety guidelines that are posted on our MEC website. In addition, EAP/Professional Standards Committee has worked to prepare the following educational article:  AFA EAP: Protecting Yourself From Sexual Violence.  While perhaps unpleasant to discuss, we must all be aware of the realities of the world in which we live and that there are individuals who will take advantage of a situation for their personal gain. Our AFA EAP/Professional Standards article includes information on situations where certain individuals may use date rape drugs in order to take advantage of an unsuspecting individual and this may include the use of date rape drugs.  Our dedicated EAP volunteers have put together these valuable resources to heighten all our awareness of the steps we can and must take to protect ourselves while we are on layover.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact AFA EAP at 800 424 2406.  Additional resources from our EAP / Professional Standards Committee are available on our website or by contacting your Local EAP representatives.
